Sure Grip is a pioneering American brand of roller skates, known the world over for its wide range of products for quad, derby and jam/dance roller skating. Sure-Grip International, formerly known as Sure grip Skate Company, was founded in 1936 by John L. Wintz. Sure Grip was first known for its rubber wheels, invented for traditional roller skates in 1937. The wheels were made from phenolic, a material widely used at the time in the mechanical industry for all products needing to resist friction. The use of this material for roller wheels revolutionized the roller skate market, replacing slippery wooden wheels. Sure-Grip became a very appropriate name, since the brand literally offered sure grip. Sure grip wheels were such a success that the brand established itself in the roller industry as a leading innovator.

In 1945, the first Sure Grip roller was produced. This first jet was a far cry from today's lightweight, durable models. Years of innovation in design and engineering have enabled Sure Grip to evolve its rollerballs. The use of aluminum, titanium and magnesium has enabled Sure-Grip to become a leader in the research and development of new materials, not only in constantly improving its products but also in offering the public products with the finest possible quality at a consistently affordable price.

From the mid-70s to the end of the decade, Sure grip had to face a radical change in the roller industry. Rollerblading was finally becoming one of America's main leisure activities. To meet this growing demand, the brand offered, for the first time in skate history, an outdoor roller mounted on a running shoe. Sure Grip called this roller the "Jogger".

The Jogger invaded the country from California to New York and was the success that propelled the Sure Grip brand even higher. Numerous brand successes followed, including roller skis and field hockey rollerblades.

In the early 2000s, the re-emergence of the 70s success of roller derby once again awakened the creative spirit of the Sure-Grip brand. And even more recently, in the quad racing market, Surgrip once again demonstrated its innovation with a new line of racing shoes, the XL series, which has proved its worth in the racing market and has now entered the roller derby market. This experience has led to the integration of a line of roller skates specially dedicated to derby and designed by roller derby girls for roller derby players. The line is called "Rebel" and obviously delivers on its promise, with an all-leather shoe slightly lower at the back for greater flexibility.
