But why do you want me to glue a plate of rough material onto my new skateboard deck? It's a question we've often been asked in our Hawaiisurf skate shop by beginners or parents of young skateboarders!

This self-adhesive piece is, of course, the grip sheet, the grip tape, often black in color with several types of grain for the level of roughness, this sheet which comes on the top sheet of your skateboard pack is used to prevent slipping during your skateboarding sessions, and to ensure that the skateboard adheres as well as possible under your skate shoes when you're dropping the ramp at the skate park or sanding curb during a street session in the Republic!

Many brands make superb quality grip plates, and among the most effective are leaders Jessup and Mob Grip, who offer sober plates with several board widths, as well as customs and collaborations with skate brands such as Plan B, Thrasher, Independent and Santa Cruz.

In France, we have the small "BEBER" brand which, in addition to making superb Haze wheels and sturdy Screwhead screws, offers you its grip plates with nickel-quality grain that won't explode your skate shoes too quickly.

For the more "bling bling", opt for the high-end, luxurious quality of the Diamond Supply grip plate collections and the famous hemp sheets as logos, or the proseries with great skateboarders who have put their names on them, such as Paul Rodriguez, Nyjah Huston, Stevie Williams and many others...

Gluing a grip, or simply changing it, requires a bit of technique, so we thought we'd put together a short video in our skateboard buyer's guide to help you quickly learn how to change your skateboard grip and how to choose your grip plate?
