In 1992, at the height of the skateboarding slump, American skateboarder Tony Hawk did the unthinkable...launch his own skateboarding business! Originally called the "Birdhouse project", it was founded on the idea that if you love something, you go for it, support it and nurture it. And so Tony launched Birdhouse ! He gathered the best skaters around him and did what he loved most of all: skateboarding! 24 years later, Birdhouse skateboards is still going strong, with one of the best teams in the sport, united by respect, camaraderie, authenticity and a love of what they do.
Over the years, the team has included some of the best-known names in skateboarding. Led by Tony Hawk in the early days, the team included Jermy Klein, Steve Berra and Willy Santos. They were later joined by Ocean Howell, Matt Beach, Paul Zitzer, Andrew Reynolds, Brian Sumner, Steve Nesser, Bucky Lasek and Heath Kirchart. Touring the world, they took part in Tony Hawk's hit video game and delivered some of the most iconic and memorable videos in skateboarding history with The End and Feasters.
Today, the Birdhouse team is home to some of the most respected and well-known skaters in the sport, featured on the front pages of Thrasher, The skateboard mag and Transwolrd Skateboarding, touring the world, winning the Thrasher "King of the road" award two years in a row and raking in all the views on The ride channel, Thrasher and The Berrics.
Of course, the mainstay will always be Tony Hawk, indisputably the most emblematic athlete in the history of skateboarding. As an athlete, his record is second to none: 12-time world champion, 16-time X Games medallist, 1st skateboarder to complete the 900 and inventor of almost 100 tricks on his own. The list goes on and on. He's also one of today's most iconic entrepreneurs.
But the Birdhouse team isn't just built on their history. It's more solid and authentic, based purely on skateboarding and the desire to make it evolve.
Hawaiisurf offers a wide selection of the best Birdhouse decks and complete skates to play like Tony Hawk and keep skateboarding alive for decades to come.
